On 15th January 2021 we wrote to the UK Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, the Right Honourable Matt Hancock MP, calling for an end to Gender Affirming Medical Treatment (GAMT)

Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care

Call for immediate suspension of opposite sex imitation treatments

Dear Mr Hancock,

I am writing to you on behalf of parents with children who are being medicalised, or are under threat of being medicalised, to treat their gender incongruence.

So called ‘transgender children’ have been medicalised to imitate the opposite sex contrary to all available medical and psychiatric evidence. Pushed by the likes of Mermaids and Gendered Intelligence as some progressive cause, this has really been a political movement to ‘validate’ the life choices of transgender people. Countless young people have had their lives ruined having been sold a ‘gender transition’ as a cure for their adolescence.

This has been a scandal, one which should have been halted long ago.

In June 2020, the NHS modified its advice and guidance on the administration of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. To date, no patients undergoing these treatments have been invited to give renewed consent. In Montgomery v Lanarkshire the Supreme Court ruled that for informed consent to exist the patient needs to be apprised of all relevant information. One must conclude, therefore, that all patients currently being prescribed puberty blockers or opposite sex hormones have not given lawful consent.

Dr Hilary Cass was invited to conduct an independent review of gender healthcare in United Kingdom. This review announced on September 22nd 2020 is a clear indication that NHS England is aware that all is not well in gender incongruence services.

BBC Newsnight has reported on the cognitive capture of The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust by gender ideologues such as Mermaids with fears expressed that homosexual young people are being medically transitioned due to homophobia.

The High Court ruled on December 1st that Keira Bell, a detransitioner, was unlawfully prescribed puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones because she was not able to give fully informed consent. The court accepted that the treatment pathway was experimental and harmful, and there was no clear evidence as to its efficacy. Moreover, the court accepted that because of the profound and life-limiting nature of the treatment a greater level of competency was required of patients to consent.

On December 22nd, the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust announced that it would appeal the decision in Bell v Tavistock. This seems to be an inexplicably foolhardy course of action and a waste of public funds. The direction of travel on the gender craze is in one direction only – and that is towards its complete discrediting.

Some of us can clearly see the error in attempting to fix the body when the problem is in the mind. Many more have been swept up into believing that supporting the medication of diverse gender identities is somehow progressive and kind. While it only requires an objective appraisal of the facts to know the truth; the lie is all the rage. The gender craze is a classic example of “Falsehood flies, and truth comes limping after it”.

Even during the Coronavirus pandemic, when our health services are alleged to be close to being overwhelmed, unnecessary mastectomies are being performed on vulnerable young women.

We call on HM Government to impose an immediate moratorium on medical interventions designed to allow patients to imitate the opposite sex.

Right now, these interventions are:

  • Demonstrably harmful
  • Almost certainly unlawful
  • Likely to be discredited by The Cass Review
  • Unjustifiable for any reason beyond the ideology of gender identity

Of course, this is a politically sensitive matter. Any moves by the government to protect the health of those with an incongruent gender identity will be labelled by the shrill and strident voices of the ideologues as ‘transphobia’. However, the government needs to be brave, thousands of young people are being harmed by the gender affirming model of treatment. It is time to put a stop to this harm. This is an opportunity to take a lead in adolescent safeguarding.

Please halt opposite sex imitation medicine now.

Your sincerely,

Keith Jordan, Our Duty
