Chris Elston a.k.a. Billboard Chris is a father of two daughters. He is also a big fan of J K Rowling with her Harry Potter books being a staple of the Elston family bedtime story routine.
When Chris became aware of gender ideology he realised the threat that it posed to his daughters. And when the controversy around Rowling’s tweets erupted he was moved to raise awareness of the issues. Inspired by the “I ❤ J K Rowling” poster at Edinburgh station, in September 2020 he erected a billboard with the same message in East Hastings, Vancouver.
The billboard was paint-bombed and taken down, which only served to amplify the impact that it had.
Subsequent billboards followed, and other parents joined in, including members of Our Duty in Los Angeles.
Chris’s activism evolved and realising that it was harder to take a billboard down if he was wearing it, he took to being a 21st Century sandwich-board man. He would go out where people would gather, to Universities, Government buildings and hospitals, wearing placards which read “Children cannot consent to puberty blockers” – a view upheld by the UK High Court in Bell v Tavistock – and “Children are never Born in the Wrong Body”.
His mission “To have one conversation at a time”.
On March 12th 2021 while doing his thing on St Catherine Street, Montreal, Chris was attacked by a group of what must be presumed to be gender ideology extremists, likely Antifa or ‘black bloc militants’.
I’m all good. Just waiting for an x-ray on my forearm but I’ll be fine. I used it to block several pylon hits.
They took my sign with the bodycam but I managed to film them with my phone during the tail end of the assault.

I was having peaceful conversations on Saint-Catherine Street, joined by a local man.
A bunch of these thugs suddenly swarmed me, I’m told there were about 7.
I took one punch to the face and one right hook to the back of my head from that big guy, but I’m hard-headed so no worries.
For the record, I did not fight back. I don’t need police arresting me again for defending myself.
I’ve got a messed up forearm, a fat lip, and a popped vein in my hand, but this is nothing compared to what’s happening to children across this country.
If criminals think an assault is going to slow me down, they’re dead wrong.

Chris might be ‘braving it out’ and has made light of the attack. However, this was a serious assault resulting in a badly broken arm. Chris has also explained in interview that he considers the attack to be premeditated. Under UK law this would be considered to be ‘GBH with intent’ for which the maximum penalty is life imprisonment. It will be interesting to see how seriously the Canadian police and judiciary treat this.
The early morning the day after the attach in Montreal, Chris was interviewed by Arty Morty:
