On 1st March 2024 the House of Commons debated the second reading of a Private Member’s Bill promoted by the Labour MP for Brighton, Kemptown, Lloyd Russell Moyle MP.

The debate can be watched on parliament.tv

Our Duty, is a parent support and advocacy group established in 2018 to protect children from the harms of gender identity ideology. With over 3,000 members in over 30 countries, Our Duty has world-leading experience and understanding of parenting children with transgender ideation.

This bill is dangerous, ideological and unnecessary, and we feel it necessary to lay out our objections.

Lloyd Russell Moyle makes clear that his bill intended to prohibit “a predetermined purpose” and a “course of conduct or activity”.

Our Duty takes the view that everyone, not just parents, should embrace a predetermined purpose that a person should desist from transgender ideation.

Our Duty provides parents with a course of conduct and various activities designed to support their child in desisting from transgender ideation.

Should Lloyd Russel Moyle’s Bill become law, then the purpose and practices of Our Duty shall be criminalised.

In the six years since our founding, Our Duty has had significant success in helping parents help their children escape the cult of gender identity ideology. Our predetermined purpose – to seek 100% desistance from transgender ideation – has not changed, and it is this that differentiates Our Duty from other groups.

“Your child is not transgender, they just think that they are, and they must be helped to change their mind.”

Each child who is helped to desist from transgender ideation avoids unnecessary medicalisation, unnecessary surgeries, the risk of sterility, and a lifetime of regret. Not only do we see our predetermined purpose as something that should not be criminalised, we see it as an unalloyed good that the whole world should get behind.

As a matter of individual freedom, parents must be able to seek appropriate help and advice such that they can raise their children as they see fit. This is a fundamental human right.

Faced with overwhelming reams of misinformation, from the media, on the internet, from politicians, and from special-interest groups, parents are left feeling helpless and questioning their own sanity. When they meet other members of Our Duty they quickly realise that it is they who are sane and good, and it is the rest of the world that has gone mad.

Our children are either male or female, and that is something that they must not seek to change, because their sex cannot be changed.

We provide parents with a “course of conduct” aimed at creating the right environment for their children to come to their senses and reject gender identity ideology. Depending on the child’s age and how deeply indoctrinated they have been, the “activities” we promote range from firm, rapid intervention through to situational, environmental and psychosocial interventions we label “supportive waiting”.

As parents, we know that seeking to save our children from the monstrous harms that ensue when it is suggested to them “you might be trans” is the right thing to do. We have a duty to our children to protect them, Our Duty.

Our children are very likely to be Lesbian, Gay or Bisexual. In adolescence, they might have difficulties coming to terms with this, they are vulnerable to the suggestion that they might be transgender. This is the real conversion practice commonplace in society today.

We would like to see a world in which suggesting to a child that they ‘might be trans’ is given the same standing as sexual grooming.

Our mission is adolescent safeguarding. Nothing more, nothing less.

Our Duty opposes this bill.

We call on interested parties to write to their MP and include a copy of this statement.
